Medical tourism can be accounted to the new types of mobility, though the concept is already older. It includes a certain set of features, namely that it has to be planned in advance, it has to imply a change in jurisdiction and it not necessarily has to include a change of country (e.g. USA). There is several reasons (e.g. Public policy, lack of approval by regulator, waiting lists) behind medical tourism, but we find a rather large amount of people traveling from developed countries to third countries. The aspect of law is extraordinary interesting, especially concerning aspects of human rights and freedom of movement vs. the state’s sovereignty.
