In addition to the daily workshops, two evening lectures enabled the participants to get further insights to intercultural issues and understanding the German and European culture.
The first evening lecture took place yesterday. Dr. Christoph Vatter from the German-French University of Saarbrücken presented multicultural Sitcoms in Canadian and in German television. In his opinion Sitcoms and TV series are reflecting the situation in which a society is living. Of course, it is a media format but the performance of the actors and the assertion of cultural values, often shown in stereotyped ways, still show culture-specific attitudes and perceptions. The analysis of three video examples clearly shows that Canadian people have a totally different approach to multicultural integration than Germans have.
