Intercultural storytelling: Elif Shafak about fiction and identity politics

Autor: Patrick Breitenbach am 17.07.2010

This is a quiet impressive and beautiful talk of Elif Shafak you have to watch if you are interested in intercultural experience:

Elif Shafak is the most-read female author in turkey. Her parts of her bio are responsible for her global and multicultural perspective. But she also tells about the one dimensional aspects of living in different countries and cultures because of the fact that she is/was always regarded as a representative of the whole turkish culture and the associated clichés. She also says that the reader of her books always wanted to find the character in her stories which fits to her own personality and therefore to her whole culture. But she just wants to tell great fictional stories – she doesn’t want to be reduced to turkish female topics.
