streamtelling – a new kind of storytelling context

Autor: Patrick Breitenbach am 11.11.2009

I would like you to join in the thoughts of Marcus Brown and his doing around a thing he called “streamtelling”. It’ brilliant stuff. Very avant-garde but it designs the future of storytelling – or storytelling in a kind of web x.x context. Maybe this could be an object or tool for science or a creative playground for students?

Streamtelling allows me to be guided by the character which is made up of what David calls dots. These dots make up the emotional outline of Felix and it’s my responsibility to join them in order to make a characteristic silhouette. If we have more dots we get a sharper outline and the character becomes richer. The brilliant thing is that there are so many ways to do this and all of them influence Felix and his story.

Enjoy the idea behind the “Demographic Replicator”, a project by David Bausola and his team from Ag8.com

The Demo Graphic Replicator is an experimental bot engine that enables anyone to make characters for entertainment and education. The characters relate themselves to other users of the internet, and try to reveal themselves through other users related posts. As such, the characters you design evolve into a personality.

It’s kind of complex for sure, you have to dig a little bit deeper. It’s worth the effort.

If you are interested maybe I’m able to organize a fictive character for the university/project/institute/module to play/work/learn with it? Give me a hint.

I’ve been following this theme for a while and I still don’t understand it. How is it storytelling?
